GoPro Hero 9 Black First Impressions

Hero 9 Black was recently launched by GoPro as the latest action camera in the year 2020. The most impressive features of this new model are the 23.6 megapixel sensor, larger battery, software tweaks and a color display at the front.

This model will be priced at Rs. 49,500 and it will launch around October this  year. GoPro will continue selling its other models including the 360-degree camera.

Design and Performance

This model is larger than the Hero 8 and is also heavier at 158g. Its core design elements are same but the Hero 9 comes with a power button on the right and a record button at the top. These new tweaks are easier to use than before. The camera comes with three microphones and two status LEDs that are spread across its design.

It also has a flap on the camera side that is given to hide the battery parts, the SD slot and the USB type-C charging port. This camera is waterproof up till 10m and has the same rugged body and design than the Hero 8. You can use it with all the GoPro mounts, only the Media Mod is not compatible with this model. This one will launch its own Media Mod soon. It will have a weather-resistant design and a new and improved microphone. This camera comes in a better packaging in a reusable hard shell case.

Hardware Features:

This camera has a better sensor with a resolution of 23.6 megapixel. The earlier model just had a 12 megapixel sensor. It can capture 5K videos at 30fps and 20-megapixel still images. This camera also comes with a rear touchscreen that is larger and measures at 2.27 inches. It also comes with a front-facing color display. There is a 1.4-inch LCD design to get a live preview of the camera. The display screen can also be used as a monitor for framing the status display or your favorite shot.

The lens is detachable and you can also swap it if it gets damaged. The Hero 9 black has a larger 1720mAh battery and can offer 30% better battery life.

Software Features:

The new software in the GoPro Hero 9 is the HyperSmooth 3.0. It offers better stabilization and also lets you use the Boost mode for tweaking the resolution. It includes a 4K 60fps also. It comes with a new version of TimeWarp – 3.0, which  lets you switch the hyperlapse video speed to half-speed or real time. It can also be used to  create slow-motion videos. This model can also perform horizon levelling inside the camera and you need not go to the app to do it.

It also has a Hindsight function that buffers the last 30 seconds of the footage and also saves what was captured just before you press the record button. It is a useful feature, but it does impact the battery life.

The GoPro Hero 9 black does have some really interesting features and it has been rightfully tweaked than its predecessor. Do buy this device and capture all your water memories.
